Marriage is the sacrament where two Baptised Christians are the ministers of the sacrament. For marriage in the Catholic Church one or both must be a Baptised Catholic, preferably also Confirmed.
It is also possible for a Baptised Catholic to marry a non-Baptised partner in the Catholic Church. If you or your fiancé live in this parish, you will need to do the marriage paperwork here.
This needs to start at least six months before the proposed wedding date. This applies whether you intend to be married here or somewhere else.
You will need to have an up to date copy of your Baptism certificate (issued within the last 6 months), Confirmation certificate (if you have been Confirmed), and various other documents which will be explained to you. It will also be necessary to attend a marriage preparation course, often available online.
It is also important to register your intention to marry in church with the local Register Office: Find a register office – GOV.UK
Please speak to the Parish Priest or contact the Parish Office with any enquiries: deal@rcaos.org.uk 01304 367496
It is very important to contact the parish priest in good time, even a year in advance of the proposed date of the marriage, to ensure that all formalities are discussed and completed.
